TIME is deaf.  No matter how loud you call, it will not pay attention to you.  Time is also merciless.  However hard you plead with it to slow down, it will not respond.  Time has its own agenda – to keep moving, and is oblivious of its surroundings and circumstances.  And six months had passed since I graduated from Singapore Bible College (SBC).  I wish time would retract so that I could enjoy the time I had in Singapore Bible College where things were more predictable – classes, chapel and of course tons of assignments!

TEACHING never leaves me although I had left some of the groups that I was a part of.  By the grace of God, I have opportunities to teach since 1993:

·         in the children’s ministry of my church, Queenstown Baptist Church (QBC);

·        Sunday school teachers during the short-term mission trips with my church members to Sarawak, Vietnam and Thailand;

·        Nepalese youths in a local secondary school;

·        former drug abusers at a halfway house;

·        young adults in my cellgroup; and

·        Church Dynamics at Yangon Theological Seminary (Myanmar) during one of the school’s semester breaks.

It was after teaching in Myanmar that I sensed God was leading me to teach Christian leaders in closed countries who do not have opportunities to go for seminary training.

TRAINING servant-leaders in closed countries through indigenous Church-based training centers so that they can develop growing and reproducing churches is the vision of BEE (Biblical Education by Extension).  I was introduced to BEE by my former lecturer, Dr. Rick Griffith.  Many of my lecturers, classmates, students and friends affirmed that I should teach.  Besides teaching, I am also writing the Old Testament Survey course for BEE Internet Biblical Study (IBS) with Dr Griffith supervising and providing me his valuable input and materials.  I notice that in recent years, many new churches are planted and multiplied in an unprecedented pace in the Two-Thirds world.  This phenomenon can be attributed to the many churches’ and parachurches’ active involvement in fulfilling the vision, “A Church for Every People and the Gospel for Every Person!”  However, I am also aware that training and equipping Christians, particularly Christian leaders, are lacking.  I am excited that I can be part of the BEE team to fulfill the Great Commission – Go and Make Disciples of all nations . . . and Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you!

THANKSGIVING is my heart response to God who gives me this honor to partner Him in His kingdom work.  I am especially thankful that God has led twelve brothers and sisters to start a pioneering work through the setting up of BEE Singapore, which is associated with BEE Korea and Bee World.  The Twelve comes from a diverse occupational background (missionaries, pastors, lecturers from SBC and a local university, a doctor, and a representative from a foreign embassy) as well as from different denominational backgrounds (Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian and Independent churches).  My role is both an EXCO member and the Treasurer.

I am also thankful that:

·         I could use the BEE materials, Christian Life, in my church’s mission trip to Sarawak (October 2003), and it had blessed many Christians there;

·         I had the privilege to teach Romans to a group of deacons and lay-leaders in one of the Asian countries last month (November 2003); and

·         I had completed writing Lesson One of the Old Testament Survey course by God’s grace (December 2003).

THREE prayer requests are:

·        God will raise up partners and supporters for the ministry that He has called me to serve;

·        divine guidance and perseverance in writing the Old Testament Survey course that has 26 lessons altogether; and

·         a loving and humble heart to love as well as to learn from my fellow brothers and sisters as I attend a course in the Chinese language at SBC next year, and teach in the various BEE centers in Asia, starting with Nepal in March 2004.
